All the team are or have been pet owners themselves and fully appreciate how important your furry, scaly or feathered family members are to you. Matthew joined the practice in 2002 However, he did actually first work at the practice as a schoolboy on work experience aged 11! One of the reasons Matthew champions work experience and progressing young talent here at Oakhill.
Clinical areas of interest: General Medicine and Anaesthesia. Matthew holds post-graduate qualifications in both of these areas.
Personal Interests: When not at work Matthew enjoys spending time with his family, working in the garden and running.
Pets: Labrador called Jeffrey and a rabbit called Phoebe

Alex joined the practice in 2014
Clinical area of interest:
Alex's main area of interest is Small Animal Surgery, particularly Orthopaedics, of which he sees cases at the Windermere Practice for clients of Oakhill Veterinary Group as well as referral cases from other veterinary practices. Please make an appointment or give him a call if you are concerned about your pet or if you are a referring vet with an interesting case.
Personal Interests:
When not at work Alex loves spending his spare time in the outdoors with his family and two dogs Finn and Joe. He enjoys a wide range of outdoor activities, including Fell Running, Triathlon, Open Water Swimming and Swimrun.
Pets: Irish Terriers called Finn and Joe.

Kathryn joined the practice in 2015
Clinical area of interest: Kathryn takes great pride her surgery work and herd and flock health planning. Kathryn gained her certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2018.
Personal Interests: Outside of work Kathryn can generally be found roaming the fells or swimming in the many lakes or tarns. Where better to do it?
Pets: A Border Terrier called Kippa

Tina joined the practice in 2017
Clinical area of interest: Medicine, obstetrics, diagnostic imaging and flock and herd health
Personal Interests: Tina enjoys travel and making the most of her Lakeland surroundings
Pets: Border collie called Seren


Ellen joined Oakhill in 2024
Clinical area of interest- Ellen has a strong interest in diagnostic imaging, particularly ultrasonography and plan to start a certificate in this area from January. She is also always keen to head out to our local farmers!
Personal interests- any time spent outdoors is time well spent to Ellen; climbing, mountain biking and hunting for mushrooms. She also enjoy cider brewing- the taste of which can be somewhat unpredictable!
Pets – She has a troublesome terrier called Pickle who is a huge fan of snacking and relaxing.

Rebecca is a new member of the team, starting Jan 2023. She gained her veterinary physiotherapy qualification from Harper Adams University in 2015, and since then has worked in and around Cumbria treating both equine and canine patients.
Clinical interests: Rebecca is particularly interested in post-operative rehabilitation and canine arthritis management
Personal interests: Rebecca is a keen horse rider and also loves hiking in the lakes (when the weather permits!)
Pets: A Patterdale x border collie called Darcey and a fluffy ginger cat called Peach

Clinical interests: Alisha has a strong interest in inpatient care and ensures the animals gets the best care possible during their stay with us
Personal interests: Alisha is a member of Young Farmers, she also enjoys walking and socialising with friends and looking after her hens
Pets: A dog called Charlie and hens

Clinical interests: Claire qualified in Cambridge in 1991. She has worked in mixed practice as well as working for a veterinary pharmaceutical company and lecturing in small animal infectious disease. Claire has also completed a Graduate Diploma in Law. More recently she has worked entirely in small animal practice. Claire’s main interest is small animal medicine and endocrinology, particularly diabetes, and also infectious disease and vaccination.
Personal interests: Outside of work Claire enjoys gardening, hill walking and cooking and also enjoy spending a lot of my time looking after, and occasionally riding, the crazy elderly horse while my daughter is away at Uni.
Pets: 3 cats, 2 dogs and an elderly crazy horse

Personal interests: I enjoy spending time with my family and getting out into the Lake District with our pup Jasper; we are very slowly working our way through the Wainwrights! When not fair weather fell walking we are also renovating our house which seems to leave little time for anything else.

Personal interests: Emma is a member of the local amateur dramatics group, she also enjoys walking her two Golden Retrievers, Heidi and Bonnie

Amy joined the practice in 2004
Clinical areas of interest: In-patient care, Anaesthesia, Emergency and critical care.
Personal Interests: When not at work Amy enjoys horse-riding, Swimming and Walking
Pets: A Jack Russell terrier called George and a cat called Dotty

Jules joined the practice in 2016
Clinical areas of interest: Anaesthesia and critical care, wound management and behaviour.
Personal Interests: When not working Jules and her husband enjoy walking, sailing and cycling.
Pets: Border collie name needs changing to Isla

Personal Interests: When not at work Tracey enjoys knitting, walking and socialising with friends.
Clinical interests: Tracey has a keen interest in inpatient care and senior and kidney clinics.
Pets: Terry the Jack Russell, who was adopted from the local RSCPA and King Kofi the Burmese cat

Clinical interests: Rachael’s main interests are anaesthesia, dentals and wound management
Personal interests: Rachael enjoys going for nice walks, socialising and spending time with family
Pets: A tripod cat called Alfie who was a rescue from the local RSPCA

Becky joined the practice in September 2023 having worked as a mixed-practice vet on the Isle of Man and in the South Lakes for 10 years since graduating.
Clinical areas of interest: As a mixed vet Becky has a wide range of interests such as obstetrics, infectious disease and surgery. A particular area of interest les in pain management and acupuncture for both small and large animals.
Personal interests: Outside of work Becky enjoys open water swimming, photography and any creative project that takes her fancy, pottery, sewing and gardening to name a few.
Pets: At home there are two cats, Eddie and Moriarty, a tropical fish tank and some very pampered hedgehogs in the garden.

Personal Interests: When Helen has any spare time she enjoys riding her horses, helping on the family farm and spending time with her children.
Pets: Sir Alan, a white and black stray cat with ideas above his station! Helen also has lots of chickens and two horses, Piglet (Gypsy cob), who lives for food (Labrador in a pony’s body) and George, a rescue Dales pony.

Personal Interests: When not at work enjoys walking with her two Golden Retrievers.

Kayleigh joined the practice in 2010
Personal Interests: In Kayleigh's spare time she enjoys walking, running, baking and socialising with friends.
Pets: Two Norwegian Forest Cats called Boris and Thor and a Springer Spaniel called Monty

Ruby joined the Practice in January 2022 after qualifying in 2015 and working at other hydrotherapy centres in Lancashire. She has a strong interest in rehabiliation following canine orthopaedic surgery and hopes to help as many pets as possible improve their mobility via laser and hydrotherapy.
In her spare time Ruby loves riding hacking out on her horse and walking her two border collies, travelling to new countries, and is committed to learn Spanish.
Pets: Two Border Collies, Sam and Tom and a horse called Diego.

Ellie joined the practice in 2023 after starting out at a mixed practice in Yorkshire for 2 years to working as a small animal vet for 5 year
Clinical areas of interest: Ellie has a keen interest in dental work and has completed her post-graduate certificate in Small Animal Dentistry.
Personal Interests: Knitting, fell walking, Samba drumming.
Pets: An elderly one-eye Jack Russell Terrier called Flick.

Personal Interests: Outside of work Julie enjoys going to the cinema, swimming and skiing.

Sam joined the practice in 2013
Personal Interests: In Sam's spare time she enjoys cross-stitch, baking and cooking, horse riding, walking and spending time with her two young children.
Pets: A snake called Casper

Personal Interests: In Sue's spare time she enjoys eating out, cooking, horse-riding and ski-ing
Pets: A cat called Louis

Personal Interests:
Lia is a big animal lover, wildlife enthusiast and generally loves being outside surrounded by nature - Sir David Attenborough’s her hero. During her free time, she enjoys hiking up the fells, paddle boarding, going for long walks (with her partner and gorgeous rescue dog), painting, drawing, writing, film nights and getting lost in a good book.
Pets:
Captain the Hungarian street dog (who is definitely more suited to the pampered-pooch-sleeping-on-the-sofa kind of life).

Personal interests: Socialising with friends
Pets: Pandora, a rescue Ragdoll and Sunshine, the ‘angry’ hamster

Personal interests: mountain biking, fell walking, motorcycling, needle work and helping out on the farm.
Pets: Two rough fell sheep called ‘Covid’ and ‘19’, a tortoise called Toto, adopted rabbit called Pete and all the farm animals.

Previously worked in a Vet practice in the North East and feels so lucky to be able to continue in the same role at Oakhill.

Pets: A sheepdog called Mist as well as a menagerie of livestock including cows, sheep, pigs and hens.


Working at Oakhill
Matthew Stables got his first taste of Vet life when he was only 11 years old and came to work right here at Oakhill on a work experience programme. He loved it so much he chose his career that very moment. Today Matthew is one of the partners at Oakhill and continues to be passionate about encouraging young people into this noble profession. Oakhill still welcomes about thirty work experience and vet students every year.
