Dental disease is one of the most common problems in our pet patients and can be a very challenging aspect of veterinary medicine. This is due to a multitude of reasons, not least the fact that we cannot fully assess the degree of disease (and therefore treatment needed), until the patient is anaesthetised, and x-rays have been taken. While routine dentistry is a core part of veterinary first opinion practice that general practitioners are able to deliver at a high standard, advances in veterinary dentistry have opened up a world of treatment options beyond teeth cleaning and basic extraction techniques. Consequently, there has been a significant rise in the demand from clients seeking more advanced dental care for their pets in recent years
At Oakhill, we are proud to offer a referral service for challenging dental cases, led by our in-house Veterinary Dentist Ellie Cowton, BVM&S PgCert Dent (WBIS) MRCVS. Ellie has had a keen interest in dentistry since qualifying in 2016. Her passion grew through working as a GP vet and she gained her post-graduate certificate in Small Animal Dentistry in 2022.
Ellie is extremely excited to be working with veterinary colleagues who require help or just advice on all types of veterinary dental procedures.
